Tru Earth - Zero Waste Laundry Review?! Does It Work?

Hello Everyone! Today I am really excited to do a product review!

Now due to the present day situation, COVID-19 and all, I have recently become more conscious as to the amount of waste I am using and all of humanity is using on a daily basis. With this new found passion, I have been watching zero waste videos on Youtube and while I am not going full force zero waste, I am using some of the zero waste swaps when they fit into my own life in order to help save the environment and to start living a low waste life.

That is where this post comes in! Today I am reviewing ZERO WASTE LAUNDRY DETERGENT!

Story Time

So I was scrolling through Instagram and an ad for zero waste laundry detergent came up and I decided to take a look. After falling down the rabbit hole, I realized that this product is a strip of laundry detergent that you put into your washing machine and when it dissolves it washes your clothes.

It all seemed so simple and to good to be true. Therefore, I just had to try it! Not only was it an amazingly simple concept, the product claims to work with all washing machines, there was a sale going on and it was a Canadian Company. Because of all the above mentioned reasons I decided to purchased a "beginners pack" and a full size pack.

Product

The company is called Tru Earth and the product is Eco Strips Laundry Detergent.

Beginners Set

The beginners set I purchased was a trial size of both of the laundry scents they offer. It was $14 on sale and totally worth it. The first package within the set being the unscented laundry detergent and the second being the "fresh linen" scent. Each of the packs came with 8 loads in it so you can get a good feel on how you feel about the product before you purchase a full set. Overall I think this is an amazing concept and really smart to get people to try out your products without wasting all their money should they not like it.

How To Use

As I said before, the instructions for this product is crazy simple. I think it is also really helpful that the product can be used in ANY washing machine on the market. Here are the instructions which were on the back of the package!

Review

Now that you know what the product is and how it works, I am going to talk about my thoughts and my experience!

Packaging

It was delivered to me in the true zero waste fashion which I am pleased with. It was just the product in a box. No plastic what so ever. That way everything can be recycled and you are not creating any waste with your purchase. The product is also found in a cardboard container which you can recycle once you are finished.

The product strips are also zero waste. With it being a dissolvable strip, there is no need for extra plastic because all the soap is contained in itself. This also makes for great storage as it doesn't take up any space in your laundry room.

Scent

The scent is great. It is strong out of the package and smells exactly what you would assume "fresh linen" would smell like. I also like it because it does not leave a scent on your clothes after the wash. This is fine with me as I don't really want my clothes to smell of anything as I prefer my clothes to smell like the body products I use as opposed to my laundry soap.

It may add more scent to your clothes if you use more than one strip of detergent though. I only use one strip for my loads so I cannot confirm or deny that claim.

Prices

I personally feel that the pricing is fair. Go check out the website and see if it works for you! I personally am willing to pay a little extra to both help the environment and help create more space in my house. On the website there are also the options to buy a full years supply all at once, which is completely doable because the product itself does not take up a lot of space. But there are a bunch of different options on the site so go check it out or wait for a sale like I did!

Outcome

Overall, I really like this product. It is as easy as it claims and it gets the job done. My clothes feel like they normally do and the are clean. I also am happy to support a company that is both Canadian and trying to help reduce waste around the globe. So I will repurchase this product in the future!
